I've noticed many times on the characters added that you applied a "filtery" appearance to the special effects, be it motion blur on a weapon or projectiles, etc. and I saw it isn't done simply by only adding transparency.
Did you change/edit the FX from the sprites by hand or is there a program/thingy that does it for you (including adding the black border which gets removed when adding transparency)?

It sounds like you are referring to the additive blending he used on many effects.

Yep, that is exactly what I'm referring to. The thing is, when I apply the same to the stuff we're working on, it looks noticeably less impressive, sometimes instead of looking detailed it looks too bright:

Interesting, on Esco's picture it seems that alpha is counted based on the lack of white... Like turning color map into BW and then used as alpha. Instead you seem to be getting multiplied white intensity based on the mount of light... Looks like opposite settings somewhere.

i do use filters on the source image, such as blur, motion blur, or several consecutive blurs while pasting the original on top each time to create the aura around it or others. it's all done in image editing software, mugen doesn't have any specific filter options, just additive and subtractive blending.

So there is indeed some work done manually for this, I'll give it a whirl then.
