It just hit me as an idea when I looked at my store of games in PC and saw Hand of Fate. long with the story mode there is infinite mode, when with each stage enemies get stronger and stronger, stages are small, so when you rush through them, (and that is easy at first) you soon get among very tough enemies in high numbers. It makes one feel like really getting more and more into the realm of evil and darkness, if not little angry as it becomes harder and harder to get through and survive.
It could be done with all playable characters. The game would begin at randomly picked safe point, the level of player is locked (cannot level up, or might slowly and hard) and no items are collected, but all enemies are at low level. However for every 10 to 20 of them killed enemies level up. (might level up 2 levels more when killing boss) So they get stronger, more HP, more damage, more defense... So you have to equip yourself fast in hope to survive longer. Enemies respawn as in normal game, when killing boss, it remains dead until one other is killed. (or maybe two other?) So that you can get some way through the castle. And they level up along with the creeps.
Score counted here is based on the time you can last in the castle along with the level of enemies that you could survive and how much of the castle you were able to explore.
