So I recently thought up something along the lines of an interactive background, similar to how Alucard can sit on chairs. What about if there were items that were a part of the background that you could collect? Imagine walking through those hallways and passing a very useful item that you never even knew was there! Perhaps if you wear a certain accessory or the like, it would trigger something special in one of the rooms that wouldn't have been activated otherwise. Just a thought.

In Super Castlevania IV you could at least past a gate and be "behind" some middle backdrops. Having those things attached to the actual new doorways would be to utilies same area times 2. I have no idea about coding or parallax rules for that matter.
Imagine smaller areas where you need to actually get behind something to move in the "middle" zone. Forground and background attached.
And speaking of backdrops. If you activated something, and you see a room further down the castle, in the background being "changed" due to this activation? Then you could in theory open something or change something that are across maps.
Really depends on location though. Or semi-close by. Rooms in between only.
We had text going on in SotN when we activated, it was no change in the background. Imagine if you actually did activate something and the background change to kinda help you figure out what you really activated instead of text.
That is way too tricky though. And could be a waste of time just to figure out. Cool feature, but would it be worth it? I doubt it.

I read that originally there were chests, maybe Alucard has to break them. open to collect items and treasure.

Excelent idea! Here are some ideas that fall out of blue from me... Alucard can pick the books from the shelves in library and list them (then return them back), might find one or two items there, or better he might be finding there tales of Belmonds and information about the monsters and there can be a lot more in the books Easter egg potions in alchemy labs transforms Al into frog or other forms for few seconds, when he picks them (drinking them immediately) or they can also cause some harful/healing effects too (just a joke) Riding the handrails Drawers in cabinets can include some items, bats, spiders, explosions of stinky or poison gas Wardrobes and coffins include skeletons, evil cloak which catches Al and gets him into wardrobe and he jumps out, bats, bugs, ... Coffins include active skeletons which jump out as enemies, sometimes can be sword too Al is for sure able to hide himself in the coffins around the castle too, if the bugs or other ugly things won't force him out Al might be able to pray at the crosses somewhere? He is christian after all, that might bring some blessing by a chance

I completely second the idea that you can find books that have lore written in them on the monsters and such. I ADORE that idea. There's also bookshelves in other areas of the game too and they could have secret books with secret lore or other interesting information. :3

Okay, I have an idea that notes, like cuts from diaries could be found across the castle. You know from time Dracula was living with a family in the Castle, so there should be notes from him, Lisa and Adrian around the castle. So far I have only two and they are meant to be funny, but there could be some quite serious with lore... (Dracula) I was philosophizing, asking into the air “What is a man?” When Lisa, breastfeeding our son, screamed: “Ouch, you miserable little pile of secrets!” I’ve learned two things at that moment. First, my wife is pure genius. Second, our son has grown fangs. (young Adrian) I will not draw mustaches at the pictures. (written 100 times)
